As fertility planning becomes increasingly diverse, choosing IVF or egg freezing as a single woman is no longer a rare path. Some prefer to focus on career first before considering family, while others want to preserve options for the future. In real-world evaluations, one key variable consistently appears—age.
Start with the basic decision logic. For women aged 35 or younger with good ovarian function, egg freezing is generally the preferred option, ideally before age 32. In practice, it is recommended to preserve around 20 eggs. Based on clinical experience, after thawing and fertilization, there is a relatively high probability of achieving at least one successful live birth. The evaluation process includes AMH levels, antral follicle count, and hormone levels, but the most intuitive references remain age and overall physical condition.
As age increases, the strategy shifts. The limitation of egg freezing lies in the inability to predict egg quality in advance—whether fertilization will succeed and whether a healthy embryo can form both remain uncertain. In contrast, directly creating embryos and combining this with IVF-PGT screening allows clear identification of chromosomal abnormalities, thereby improving efficiency for future use.
From a data perspective, about 80% of embryos from 40-year-old women present chromosomal abnormalities. Generally, around 75% of retrieved eggs fertilize, and about 50% of fertilized eggs develop into blastocysts. On this basis, a considerable proportion of blastocysts may still carry chromosomal issues. This means that completing egg retrieval does not necessarily equate to obtaining usable outcomes.
Therefore, for older individuals, a more practical approach is to prioritize embryo development. If no healthy embryos can be obtained, egg freezing alone has limited value; if healthy embryos are successfully developed, it indicates that reproductive potential still exists, and multiple cycles may be required to accumulate embryos.

Age defines the time window, ovarian function determines the resource base, and technology defines the execution path.
